Government Decree on the organizational structure of VNA (Vietnam News Agency)
On August 1st, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed Decree No. 88/2013/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the Vietnam News Agency.

Accordingly, the Vietnam News Agency is a government agency performing the function of a state news agency in disseminating official information and documents of the Party and the State; providing information to serve the leadership requirements of the Party and the management of the State; collecting and disseminating information through various media channels, serving mass media agencies, the public, and other interested parties both domestically and internationally.
The Vietnam News Agency is tasked with unifying the dissemination of official documents and information from the Party and the State; collecting and compiling news, photos, audiovisual products, documents, books, and other types of reference information to promptly serve the leadership requirements of the Party and the management requirements of the State.
The Vietnam News Agency is tasked with publishing the State's official viewpoints on current affairs; correcting information that is inconsistent with national interests; rectifying false information; and, when necessary, issuing statements refuting information intended to distort the truth. It collects, compiles, publishes, and disseminates information products to provide to mass media, the public, and interested parties both domestically and internationally; and produces and broadcasts news television channels to serve the essential political and propaganda tasks of the nation.
The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) carries out the foreign information tasks assigned by the Party and the State, collecting and disseminating information about Vietnam in various languages to domestic agencies and organizations, foreign news agencies and press organizations, foreigners, and Vietnamese people abroad; carrying out information and propaganda tasks for ethnic minorities and mountainous regions using their spoken and written languages; archiving information documents; building a national information database and managing national photographic documents; coordinating with relevant agencies to carry out information tasks serving national defense and security; and conducting international cooperation in areas within the functions, tasks, and powers of the Vietnam News Agency as prescribed by law...
According to the Decree, the Vietnam News Agency has five units assisting the Director General of the Vietnam News Agency, including: the Editorial Secretariat; the Personnel and Organization Department; the Office; the Planning and Finance Department; and the Inspection Department.
In addition, the Vietnam News Agency has 21 information units: 1- Domestic News Editorial Board; 2- World News Editorial Board; 3- Foreign News Editorial Board; 4- Photo Editorial Board; 5- Economic News Editorial Board; 6- News Agency Television Center; 7- Information and Documentation Center; 8- News Newspaper; 9- VietnamPlus Online Newspaper; 10- Vietnam News Newspaper; 11- Vietnam Photo Newspaper; 12- Le Courrier du Vietnam Newspaper; 13- Sports and Culture Newspaper; 14- Ethnic and Mountainous Regions Photo Newspaper; 15- Science and Technology Newsletter; 16- Vietnam Law and Legal Forum Magazine; 17- News Agency Publishing House; 18- Vietnam News Agency Southern Regional Office; 19- Vietnam News Agency Central-Central Highlands Regional Office; 20. Vietnam News Agency's permanent bureaus in provinces and centrally-administered cities; 21. Vietnam News Agency's permanent bureaus abroad.
The information service units of the Vietnam News Agency include the News Agency Technical Center; the News Agency Professional Training Center; the News Agency Media Development Center; the Information Technology Center; and the News Agency International Cooperation Center.
The Vietnam News Agency has a Director General and no more than four Deputy Directors General. The Director General of the Vietnam News Agency is appointed and dismissed by the Prime Minister and is responsible to the Government and the Prime Minister for all activities of the Vietnam News Agency.
This Decree takes effect from September 15, 2013. This Decree replaces Decree No. 24/2008/ND-CP dated March 3, 2008 of the Government stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and structure and organization of the Vietnam News Agency; and repeals all previous regulations contrary to this Decree.
