Nghi Loc: Responding to the National Action Month on Population 2014

(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of December 5th, the People's Committee of Nghi Loc district, the District Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning, in coordination with the People's Committee of Nghi Hoa commune, organized the launching ceremony to respond to the National Action Month on Population in 2014.

The National Action Month on Population takes place from December 1st to December 31st with the theme "Controlling population growth rate - for the rapid and sustainable development of our homeland."This aims to promote the participation of the entire political system and the whole population in implementing the Party and State's population and family planning policies, enhancing the responsibility of all levels and sectors, each family, and the entire society regarding the meaning and importance of population and family planning work for the health and happiness of each citizen, each family, and the sustainable socio-economic development of the country."

In 2014, the population and family planning work in Nghi Loc district continued to achieve significant results, with a 1.6% decrease in the birth rate and a 1.3% decrease in the rate of third or subsequent births compared to 2013. Communication and advocacy efforts were strengthened and improved in both content and form. However, alongside these achievements, the population and family planning work in the district still faces many difficulties and challenges. These include shortcomings in adolescent and youth reproductive health care, unstable results in reducing birth rates and the rate of third or subsequent births, and the lack of exemplary conduct among some Party members and officials in implementing population and family planning policies, which negatively impacts public participation in these policies.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, members of the District Steering Committee for Population and Family Planning, population officials from 30 communes and towns, and officials from mass organizations in Nghi Hoa commune participated in a parade along Provincial Road 534 and other main traffic routes to support the National Action Month on Population.

As part of a series of communication activities in response to the National Population Action Month and commemorating Vietnam's Population Day on December 26th, the District Population and Family Planning Center previously coordinated with the District Women's Union and the Charity Fund to organize counseling on reproductive health/maternal and child health/family planning for women of childbearing age in coastal communes; and collaborated with the Population and Family Planning Committee and the Youth Union of Nghi Hoa commune to organize a forum on reproductive health care for adolescents and young people and prevention of social evils. The forum attracted the attention of a large number of people in the implementation area and neighboring areas.
