Nghi Loc lost autumn and lost winter
(Baonghean.vn) – Currently, Nghi Loc farmers are starting to harvest winter peanuts, however, peanut yields have decreased sharply, with some households losing everything due to the weather.
This winter crop, Nghi Loc district planted 437 hectares of peanuts, concentrated in Nghi Long, Nghi Trung, Nghi Hop communes...
Nghi Long is a strong peanut producer in the district, however, this winter crop, the yield has decreased sharply. The whole commune planted nearly 40 hectares of winter peanuts, but the average peanut yield this crop is only 10 quintals/hectare. A decrease of more than 50% compared to the yield of previous years. Some households lost everything due to heavy rains while the fields were poorly drained, causing the peanuts to be heavily flooded.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ky in Nghi Trung grows 3 sao of peanuts but the yield is only more than 3 quintals. |
Ms. Dang Thi Dung, Hamlet 8, Nghi Long sighed: "Every year, my family's 2 sao of peanuts yield 300 kg of peanuts, but it looks like this year we won't get 100 kg. It's been raining too much recently, and so many times, so even if we replant, we still can't save it."

Mr. Nguyen Van Ky, Nghi Trung commune said: His family grows more than 3 sao of peanuts, because the field is high, so the damage is as high as the households whose fields are low, but the yield is still reduced sharply. Every year, he harvests more than 500 kg of peanuts, but this year he only harvested about 200 kg, and the quality is very low, many tubers are flat or have no seeds.

Poor peanut crops due to bad weather |
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang - Head of the District Agriculture and Rural Development Department said: Currently, communes in Nghi Loc have started harvesting winter peanuts but the yield is not high. The average annual yield is from 20 - 35 quintals/ha but this year it only reached 10 - 12 quintals/ha. The reason is that due to the heavy rains, large flooded areas cannot be restored, so there are fields that have been completely lost. After harvesting winter peanuts, we continue to direct localities to plant spring peanuts on colored areas.
