Suspect who hacked to death father and 3 relatives has history of mental illness

The heartbreaking massacre occurred at dawn on December 1 in Ta Ngao village, Tan Trinh commune, Quang Binh district (Ha Giang province).

The suspect is Phu Minh Tuan (32 years old), who hacked his biological father and three others to death. In addition, Tuan also seriously injured a relative.

Slashed 5 people at dawn

According to information from Quang Binh District Police, at around 4am, Tuan took a knife and rode a motorbike to the house of Mr. Phu Lao Ta (59 years old, Tuan's biological father).

At that time, Mr. Ta was sleeping in the house with his granddaughter Phu Anh Tuyet (2 years old). Tuan used a knife to kill Mr. Ta and Tuyet.

Then, Tuan went to the house of Mrs. Tai Lo Mo (51 years old, his aunt) nearby and hacked Mrs. Mo to death. Mr. Phu Lao San (26 years old, Mrs. Mo's son) was sleeping in the house and heard his mother's screams. He woke up and was also seriously injured by Tuan.

Hearing the cries for help, Phu Van Thinh (23 years old), a village militiaman and also a relative of Tuan, rushed to the scene to stop the crime and was also hacked to death by Tuan on the spot. After committing the crime, Tuan did not flee but stayed in the house.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of Quang Binh District People's Committee, said the suspect was arrested at the scene. Ha Giang Provincial Police sent a working group led by the deputy director of the provincial police to the scene to direct the investigation as well as stabilize the local security and order situation.

When the incident happened, Tuan's mother did not sleep at home but slept outside the hut to watch the field and thus escaped. One of Tuan's biological children was sleeping and saw his father walking away with a knife. He hid under the bed and thus escaped.

Mr. Phu Lao San was taken to the emergency room in critical condition.

The suspect has a history of mental illness.

According to information from the People's Committee and the Quang Binh District Police, Tuan had a history of mental illness and was sent for compulsory treatment at the Central Psychiatric Hospital. On July 7, Tuan was discharged from the hospital.

According to information from Ha Giang Provincial Police, in January 2015 Tuan also caused a heartbreaking incident, using a knife to kill his own child.

Immediately after the incident, the Criminal Police Department arrested Tuan, but because Tuan showed signs of mental illness, the authorities took him to the hospital for mandatory treatment.

Mr. Phu Quang Sy - Secretary of the Party Committee of Tan Trinh commune - said that when his family brought Tuan from the hospital to his locality, he was under the management and monitoring of the authorities.

Tuan does not have a stable job and mainly helps his family with housework. In a family of five siblings, only Tuan has a history of mental illness.
