German MP proposes halting arms supplies to Ukraine for 48 hours in exchange for ceasefire
(Baonghean.vn) - A famous left-wing member of the Bundestag (German Parliament) proposed stopping weapons aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces for 48 hours in exchange for a ceasefire.

According to Ria Novosti news agency on February 22, famous German politician from the left-wing party, Gregor Gysi, said that the West should stop supplying weapons to Ukraine within 48 hours, in exchange for asking Russia to agree to a 48-hour ceasefire in Ukraine.
“Of course, the West, after discussing with the Ukrainian government, can declare: We will no longer supply weapons within 48 hours, if Russia agrees to a 48-hour ceasefire,” politician Gysi said in a talk show hosted by Spiegel.
According to Mr. Gysi, if Russia rejects this proposal, the supply of weapons to Ukraine should continue. However, if Russia agrees, the parties will reach a ceasefire, paving the way for peace negotiations.
Previously, on February 16, in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement.
Chancellor Scholz said Germany was providing a military aid package worth 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion), including 36 artillery guns, 120,000 artillery shells and two other air defense systems to Ukraine.
Chancellor Scholz described the long-term security agreement between Germany and Ukraine as a “historic step”. It is Ukraine’s second bilateral agreement after one signed last month with the UK.
The Ukraine-Germany security agreement, which is valid for 10 years, emphasizes “Germany's intention to provide long-term military support to Ukraine's security and defense forces.”
