(Baonghean.vn) - Although having a stable job at the North Central Planning Institute, Nguyen Van Anh still decided to return to his hometown to build a comprehensive farm, raising grass-fed cattle with the determination to get rich on his homeland.

In village 12, Phuc Son commune, Anh Son district, if you ask for "Anh farm", everyone will know, because that is the nickname people gave to Mr. Nguyen Van Anh, who pioneered in getting rich with the farm model on the Lam River sandbank.

Meeting us, Mr. Anh shared: In 2001, after graduating from the Geological Engineering Department of the University of Mining and Geology, he accepted a job at the North Central Planning Institute. The nature of the job is to travel to many places, so he had the opportunity to visit many production and livestock models that bring high profits. Originally from agricultural production, he was not afraid of livestock farming, and seeing that he could take advantage of the abundant and fertile land in the area, in January 2014 he decided to quit his job and return to his hometown to do a farm according to the VAC model, with the main livestock being grass-fed cattle.

Từ 10 con bò cỏ, hiện nay đàn bò của anh Nguyễn Văn Ánh đã lên đến 30 con.
From 10 grass-fed cows, Nguyen Van Anh's herd has now grown to 30 cows.

To start a farm, the first thing is to have land. After much research, Mr. Anh decided to bid for the land along the Lam River in Phuc Son Commune for 8 million VND per year, with an area of over 2 hectares. From a state employee who "went to work in the morning and returned home at the end of the month in clean clothes", Mr. Anh put on his worn-out work clothes and woke up early every day to clear the land and build the farm until dark. With the accumulated capital, he invested 100 million VND to buy 10 grass cows for breeding. On the bid area, he divided it scientifically, 5 sao for growing grass to raise cows, 6 sao for growing commercial squash, dug 3 sao for fish ponds and planted 200 banana trees.

Determining that farming is not a one-day or two-day affair, in order to make a living, he took advantage of the fertile alluvial soil in the coastal area to grow 6 sao of off-season green squash. In 2015, the yield reached 1.5 tons/sao, with a selling price of 8,000-10,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, the total value of the 6 sao was 80 million VND. Realizing the effectiveness of growing green squash on alluvial soil, this winter crop, Mr. Anh increased the area to 1 hectare. Currently, he is focusing on covering the seeds with plastic sheets.

After only 2 years of construction, the farm now has 30 cows, 200 banana trees, 2 fish ponds, 1 hectare of squash; after deducting all expenses, in 2015 the profit was 150 million VND.

Sharing his plans for the future, Mr. Anh said: The purpose of establishing a farm is to change the thinking of rural people who come home from school that they must have a job, especially those who want to work for the government to have a place in society, afraid of getting their hands dirty. Building a farm in their hometown will both develop the family economy and create more jobs for workers.

Recently, he was supported with a loan of 250 million VND to build a farm. With this capital, he will double the size of his farm. He also said he is willing to advise on starting a business and help many farmers who want to learn from his experience in getting rich with the farm model.
