Nghe An Provincial People’s Court has just opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Van Trung (born in 1982), residing in Nghi Tan ward, Cua Lo town, for the crime of “Murder”. The victim in the case is the defendant’s wife – Ms. Nguyen Thi B. (born in 1983).
At around 7:00 p.m. on November 23, 2021, Trung was having dinner when he heard that his wife was having an affair at an apartment building in Cua Lo town, so he went to check.

On the way, Trung called a friend to ask for a ride to the apartment, with the intention of taking his wife home. While waiting for his friend to go with him, Trung took out a sharp knife and hid it on his person.
At 8:30 p.m., Trung's group arrived at the apartment building and met Ms. B's brother. Surprised to see so many people coming to his room, he closed the door, but Trung pushed the door open and went inside.
Then, Trung went into the house alone and saw his wife standing in the bathroom. Trung looked everywhere, asking “where is that guy?” but couldn’t find anyone.
Thinking that his wife's lover had run away, Trung angrily returned to the bathroom, grabbed a knife and stabbed Ms. B twice in the left abdomen.
Hearing the cry for help, people ran in to stop him and snatched the knife from Trung's hand.
The victim was taken to the emergency room by everyone. Although his life was saved, he suffered 43% physical damage. As for the perpetrator, at 10:30 p.m. the same day, Trung turned himself in to the police.
At the trial, the defendant confessed and admitted his crime. Trung confessed that he acted as he suspected his wife of having an affair.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant knew that using a sharp knife, a dangerous weapon, to stab another person into a vital area of the body could lead to death. The victim survived because he resisted fiercely and was promptly intervened and given emergency treatment, so he needed to be severely punished.

Considering the whole case, the court sentenced defendant Nguyen Van Trung to 7 years in prison for "Murder".
