(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 27th, Nghia Dan district held its first Congress of Delegates of the Association for the Support of People with Disabilities and Orphans, for the term 2014-2019.

Currently, Nghia Dan district has 1,304 people with disabilities, including 260 people with severe disabilities who are unable to care for themselves and are receiving monthly social welfare allowances in the community; and over 887 war invalids and sick soldiers. Annually, the state budget allocates approximately 38 billion VND in allowances to these individuals. There are 2,621 children living in poor households, 507 children with particularly difficult circumstances, and 136 orphaned children without guardians. There are 332 children with disabilities. In recent years, the care and assistance for people with disabilities and orphaned children in the district has received attention from Party committees, government agencies, organizations, departments, philanthropists, and the community, helping them integrate into society, overcome difficulties, and gradually become independent and self-reliant. From 2010 to 2014, the Children's Protection Fund and the Fund for Children with Disabilities raised over 3 billion VND through awareness campaigns and fundraising. In addition, they solicited over 1.5 billion VND from companies, businesses, and philanthropists, and provided surgery for 81 children with disabilities at a cost of over 1.2 billion VND. Other activities such as screening, surgical support, wheelchair provision, and visits during holidays and festivals were also intensified.

In the coming term, the Association will effectively implement communication and education programs to raise social awareness and the Law on Persons with Disabilities and Orphans, call for and honor individuals and groups who have made significant contributions, provide advice on preferential credit loans for development to poor members, provide surgery and rehabilitation for eligible individuals, grant scholarships, and give practical gifts...

At the Congress, the Executive Committee of the District Association for the Protection of Disabled People and Orphans for the term 2014-2019 was elected, consisting of 19 members. On this occasion, the Association also presented gifts to disabled people and orphans in the area.
