(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, the Quy Hop and Nghia Dan sugarcane areas have multiplied 4,000 hectares of high-quality sugarcane from Thailand with a yield of 80-100 tons/ha.

At this time, farmers in Nghia Duc commune (Nghia Dan) are focusing on harvesting all sugarcane areas and implementing spring sugarcane planting. Although this year's sugarcane price is a few tens of thousands of VND/ton lower than last year, in return, the stable output allows sugarcane farmers to still have a good income, especially the high-yield Thai sugarcane areas.

According to Mr. Bach Hung Nam - Chairman of Nghia Duc Commune People's Committee, the commune attaches importance to selecting sugarcane varieties to increase sugarcane productivity and income. In the 2017 crushing season, the commune had 70% of its sugarcane area using grass-sprouting disease-resistant sugarcane varieties such as LK92-11 - a Thai sugarcane variety with a yield of 100 tons/ha.

In 2018, Nghia Duc commune set a target of increasing sugarcane productivity to 80 tons/ha. First, the commune will propagate 10 hectares of KK3 sugarcane (a sugarcane variety with a yield of over 100 tons/ha from Thailand), then continue to expand the area in the following years.

For the LK92 - 11 sugarcane variety, which is the main sugarcane variety of the commune, farmers continue to care for and invest to increase productivity.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa Luu, hamlet 2, Nghia Duc commune, planted 15 new acres of Thai sugarcane this year. He shared: For farmers like us, growing sugarcane is the safest because we don't have to worry about output. 1 hectare of sugarcane planted with the new variety earns over 50 million VND/ha.

Like in Nghia Duc commune, farmers in Nghia Hung (Nghia Dan) also started preparing the land to plant 150 hectares of new sugarcane varieties.

KK3 sugarcane variety has been tested, propagated and put into production in some communes in Nghia Dan and brought productivity from 100 tons to 150 tons/ha. Sugarcane variety has many advantages such as: high yield and sugar content, good root regeneration, no flagging, resistance to smut, no appearance of grass shoot disease like other sugarcane varieties...

Recently, the sugarcane growing area in Quy Hop, Nghia Dan has been implementing many measures to replace new disease-free sugarcane varieties, increase productivity and quality of sugarcane in the area such as implementing sugarcane breeding farms with high productivity, good quality and resistance to pests and diseases.

Currently, both Nghia Dan and Quy Hop districts have planted 500 hectares of KK3 variety and 3,500 hectares of LK 92 - 11. Thus, there are 4,000 hectares of newly propagated sugarcane out of a total of more than 13,000 hectares of sugarcane in Phu Quy area.

Nghe An Sugarcane Company is also propagating 3-level sugarcane varieties with the Agricultural Genetics Institute, culturing tissue cells to create disease-free sugarcane varieties and multiplying them in the fields for farmers./.
