Nghia Lam: Spreading solidarity through the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households
Over the years, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghia Lam commune has played a core role in gathering and mobilizing social resources, while also monitoring and coordinating support for the construction and repair of houses for poor households and households in difficult circumstances. With many creative ways, the commune Fatherland Front has aroused the spirit of solidarity among the people, mobilized the participation of the entire political system and the community, thereby bringing practical results in the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.

Ms. Lo Thi Hai, 70 years old, a Thai ethnic in Minh Lam hamlet, Nghia Lam commune, could not hide her emotions when moving into a new, spacious house. Due to her old age and poor health, she had to live in a seriously degraded house for many years but had no means to repair it. Thanks to the attention of the commune's Fatherland Front, her family received 60 million VND from the "For the Poor" Fund along with the contributions of her children, grandchildren and neighbors. Thanks to that, Ms. Hai has realized her dream of having a solid home and peace of mind in her old age.
“My previous house was dilapidated, and I was worried about the rain and wind. Now, thanks to the care of the Party, the State, and the Fatherland Front of the commune, and the help of my brothers, I have a house to protect me from the sun and rain in the afternoon,” Ms. Hai emotionally shared.
Also in Minh Lam hamlet, Ms. Le Thi Chung, 65 years old, lives alone, has poor mental development, and has had to live in a dilapidated, leaky house for many years. Faced with this particularly difficult situation, the commune Fatherland Front has called for support from businesses, philanthropists and local people to build Ms. Chung a new, sturdy house. "Before, every time it rained, it leaked, it was very miserable. Now that I have a new house, I am very happy," Ms. Chung expressed her simple happiness.
Not only providing direct financial support, the Fatherland Front of Nghia Lam commune also promoted the spirit of "helping each other", mobilizing people to participate in the workday of dismantling old houses, digging foundations, leveling the ground, and transporting materials. This joint effort has helped significantly reduce construction costs, while creating community cohesion. Each completed house is not only the result of the attention of the government and organizations, but also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of solidarity and mutual support of the people here.

According to Mr. Truong Van Cuong - Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghia Lam commune, in the period of 2023 - 2025, the whole commune has 72 poor, near-poor and extremely disadvantaged households in need of housing support, of which 40 households need to build new ones. By June 30, 2025, the commune had basically completed the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, with a total mobilized resource of more than 2.83 billion VND. "We have advised the local Party Committee and government to launch a movement, calling on businesses, philanthropists and people to join hands. Thereby, many practical activities have been implemented according to the motto of everyone contributing, creating a vibrant atmosphere, spreading the spirit of responsibility throughout society," said Mr. Cuong.
The newly built houses in Nghia Lam not only help poor households stabilize their lives and feel secure in their work and production, but also contribute significantly to sustainable poverty reduction and new rural construction. This is also the basis for the government and people to work together to achieve the goal of "leaving no one behind", in line with the humane spirit of our Party and State.
It can be said that the results achieved in the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in Nghia Lam commune are clear evidence of the core role of the Fatherland Front in gathering the strength of the great national unity bloc. With a sense of responsibility, creativity in working methods and high determination, the commune Fatherland Front has turned correct policies into concrete actions, bringing practical benefits to the people. Today's solid houses are the belief and motivation for the poor to rise up, at the same time affirming the sustainable value of solidarity in community life.
