Tang went down to the kitchen to get a knife and an axe with the intention of hitting his father. When he got close to his father, Tang used the axe to slash Mr. Tr's chest. Being beaten by his son, the father threw the axe away and begged "don't, don't do that" but Tang still coldly pulled out a knife and stabbed his father many times. After that, Tang created a fake scene of his father committing suicide.
After killing his father, Tang used a crowbar to break into the safe and took nearly 24 million VND to buy drugs and spend on personal expenses. As for the axe used in the crime, Tang threw it into the Nam Mo River. At 7 p.m., Tang went to the police station to surrender.
At the trial, the defendant confessed and admitted to his crime. Tang said he was angry that his father often got drunk and cursed at his family, so he acted like that.
After the incident, Tang used his savings (70 million) to compensate the victim's representative. The defendant's mother and siblings, who are also the victim's representatives, asked for a reduced sentence for Tang.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s murder was a hooligan act and therefore should be severely punished. However, it is also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant such as surrender, repentance, voluntary compensation for damages, and the victim’s request for leniency.
Considering the case as a whole, the court sentenced Luong Van Tang to life in prison for murder and four years in prison for robbery; the total sentence is life in prison./.
