Addicted to gambling, the young man cheated his own father.
(Baonghean.vn) - Lacking money to gamble, Hung tricked his own father by giving him 2 cars to invest in business but in reality he pawned them with fake documents.
On the morning of March 29, at the headquarters of the People's Court of Nghe An province, the High People's Court in Hanoi opened an appeal trial of Nguyen Van Hung (born 1987), residing in Hong Long commune, Nam Dan district, for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

According to records, in 2012, Hung was sentenced to 7 months in prison by the Nam Dan District People's Court for gambling. After being released from prison, Hung continued to participate in lottery and gambling, so he was in debt. With creditors constantly demanding payment, Hung thought of ways to earn money to pay.
On May 21, 2017, Hung rented a Kia Morning car from TMH LLC for 1 month for 18 million VND. Then, Hung hired an acquaintance in Dong Nai to forge the car's papers under his name. With the car and fake papers in hand, Hung pawned it to Mr. Hoang Van B. (residing in Vinh City) for 400 million VND.
Then, in July 2017, Hung continued to rent a TOYOTA car from TM Company Limited (residing in Vinh City), the rental period was 1 month, 24 million VND. Hung continued to hire someone to forge documents and then pawned it to Nguyen Hong N. (residing in Vinh City) for the amount of 700 million VND.
With the money he had, Hung continued to indulge in debauchery. When he ran out of money, Hung turned around and scammed his own father. First, Hung told his father to hand over the family car to a self-drive car rental company to do business. Trusting him, the father handed over the car to his son, not knowing that his precious son had already plotted to use fake documents to "magically" turn the car into his own, and continued to mortgage it to Mr. Hoang Van B. for 400 million VND.
Not stopping there, Hung continued to trick his father into taking another family car to "invest in business". Using the same trick, Hung brought the car to pawn to Ms. Nguyen Hong N. to get 250 million VND.
The incident was exposed and Hung was prosecuted. The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Van Hung had appropriated 1.3 billion VND from Mr. Hoang Van B. and 950 million VND from Ms. Nguyen Hong N.
At the first instance trial, defendant Hung admitted all his crimes. The panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Van Hung to 18 years in prison and ordered him to return all the money he had embezzled to the victims.
Hung then appealed to the appellate court for a lighter sentence. At court, Hung's biological father, who was also the victim in the case, filed a petition for a lighter sentence for the defendant.
The appellate panel found that the court of first instance had made a comprehensive assessment of the evidence proving the defendant’s criminal behavior and the dangerous nature of the defendant. The court of first instance also considered the defendant’s personal background and the aggravating and mitigating circumstances and decided that the sentence of 18 years in prison was appropriate.
At the appeal hearing, there were no new details that changed the content of the case. Therefore, the appellate panel rejected the defendant's appeal.
