Research on resuming international flights
On May 26, the Ministry of Transport assigned the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to study and propose the resumption of some international flights before June 10 to submit to the Prime Minister.
According to the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Dinh Viet Thang, domestic airlines are ready to fly internationally as before the pandemic. The Civil Aviation Authority has plans to resume flights, but it depends on the assessment of the epidemic situation in each country. The National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control will evaluate and decide when to reopen any flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has also received requests from many Taiwanese and Korean airlines wanting to fly to Vietnam.
At a discussion on stimulating tourism after Covid-19, some aviation and tourism experts proposed resuming international flights on a bilateral basis with countries with good epidemic prevention work such as Australia and New Zealand.

Domestic flights have resumed, but international flights have been closed since April 1 due to the pandemic in many countries. Domestic airlines are only operating a few flights to bring Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad back home.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in May, the number of passengers passing through airports nationwide reached 2.88 million, down 70% compared to the same period in 2019. However, the number of passengers increased compared to April when it only reached 188,000 passengers.
