Research on "Xao Tam Phan" (a type of medicinal herb) for treating cancer.

The People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has just approved the plan for Khanh Hoa Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company to research, cultivate, extract, and produce medicine from the Xao Tam Phan medicinal plant, which is considered to have effects in treating cancer.

According to preliminary research by the Central Institute of Medicinal Materials, when studied on animals (white mice), Xao Tam Phan (a type of medicinal plant) showed inhibitory effects on acute hepatitis and cytotoxic effects on five cancer cell lines, and was found to be quite safe for use. However, Xao Tam Phan has not yet undergone clinical trials.

Along with planning and preserving the medicinal plant area, the next in-depth research topic will be "research on extracting the active ingredients of Xao Tam Phan to obtain the highest active ingredient content, and research on producing suitable product forms (tablets, capsules, oral solutions) in sufficient quantities for clinical research on their effects on humans..."

The Khanh Hoa Department of Health has also sent a document to the Ministry of Health requesting that central specialized agencies be directed to guide and coordinate with the locality to promote the next steps in research to confirm the medicinal effects of the Xao Tam Phan plant on humans, in order to have a basis for guiding people to use it effectively and safely, and to preserve and develop this medicinal plant resource in Khanh Hoa province.

To date, the situation regarding the exploitation and trading of Xao Tam Phan plants in Ninh Van commune, Ninh Hoa town (Khanh Hoa province) remains complex and difficult to control.
