According to the patient, four days ago, while he was weeding in his garden, a viper bit his left finger. When the wound became swollen, his family took him to a local herbalist for a herbal treatment.
The herbalist used a needle to prick the wound, squeeze out the blood, and then apply a “strange” medicine to treat it. A day later, the 34-year-old man fell into a state of fatigue, the wound was swollen and bleeding… and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.
Doctor Vo Thanh Tam, deputy head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poison (Thong Nhat General Hospital, Dong Nai) said that patient Thai suffered from severe poisoning. The wounds caused by the witch doctor using needles to squeeze blood were about to become infected. Currently, patient Pham Hong Thai's health has shown positive changes.
According to Dr. Tam, the hospital had previously treated and amputated a patient's finger joint to save him by applying traditional medicine to a venomous snake bite.
