Surprised by the "hometown" of the "boss" of Miss Vietnam
As a journalist and poet, Mr. Duong Xuan Nam is also known by many as the “Father of the Miss Vietnam pageant”. Few people know that after retirement, he chose a place to return to that is associated with trees, mountains, forests, and rivers.
Located about 30km from the center of Hanoi, Mr. Duong Xuan Nam's stylized stilt house is nestled in the mountains and forests, separate from the city streets.

Mr. Duong Xuan Nam said that he loves beauty and likes to be in harmony with nature, so he chose this place as his retirement home. The house was built in 2003 and completed in 2004.
“When building this house, I consulted and received advice from many architects. However, in the end, I chose the design done by my daughter’s friend. In my opinion, it was the most suitable and natural design,” said Mr. Nam.

The house Mr. Nam mentioned is located in Lam Truong area, Soc Son, Hanoi. The back of the house leans against the mountain, the front faces 3 clear blue lakes. The house is surrounded by trees.
“The house is built on a high position so it is very cool in the summer, no need to use air conditioning. The four sides of the house are surrounded by four spacious corridors. Therefore, on summer nights, the moon can enter the bedroom. On rainy days, my wife and I just need to walk around the house so we don’t have to go out to exercise,” Mr. Nam humorously described his house.

According to Mr. Nam, after retiring, he spent most of his time taking care of this house.
“In addition to medicinal plants, I also grow thousands of grapefruit trees and many fruit trees in my garden. I also set aside a small garden to grow dong leaves to wrap banh chung during Tet. More importantly, this type of tree helps me miss my hometown less when Tet comes,” Mr. Nam shared.

With the view of living in harmony with nature, all the fruit trees in the garden are taken care of by his family using environmentally friendly methods.
“I never use pesticides when gardening. If I don’t finish all the fruit at home, I give it to my brothers, neighbors, and friends who come over.”

Mr. Nam said that because the house is located separately from the crowded streets, it is considered a literary gathering place for writers, poets, and journalists.

“Last weekend we welcomed writers and poets such as Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, Khuat Binh Nguyen, Le Hoai Nguyen, Nguyen Quang Thieu... We sat together, drank tea and many works of poetry and literature were born,” writer and poet Duong Xuan Nam introduced.
The "Father of Miss Vietnam" also did not hide his feelings when he confided that after the ups and downs of life and the hustle and bustle of the city, what he finds most relaxing is living and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains and forests here.

Mr. Duong Xuan Nam (also known as Duong Ky Anh) was born in 1948 in (Ky Anh, Ha Tinh) is a poet, writer, journalist, former Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper. In addition, he is also known as the first person to bring the famous beauty contest for women to Vietnam, so people often call him by the name - "Father of the Miss Vietnam contest". He took on the role of Head of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Jury of the Miss Vietnam contest (the first, oldest and largest Miss contest in Vietnam) from 1988 to 2012.
