MU won their fourth consecutive match in the Premier League. |
The highlight of the 21st round of the Premier League taking place in the early morning of January 3 was the match between Newcastle and MU at St James' Park. The home field advantage and a focused defensive style of play could only help coach Rafa Benitez's team hold MU to a 0-0 draw in the first half.
In the second half, when the visitors accelerated, the home team conceded 2 goals in a row. Romeu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford were the ones who scored to help the "Red Devils" win 2-0, thereby extending the winning streak since coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer led the team to 4 consecutive, at the same time putting a lot of pressure on 4th place Chelsea, when they are only 6 points behind.
In the match that took place 15 minutes earlier, Chelsea could not take advantage of the home field advantage when the opponent was only Southampton. A series of opportunities were missed by the strikers of the blue team and they had to accept the end of the match with a score of 0-0. This is also the 5th draw of Sarri's team this season and it makes them increasingly far behind Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City.
