UK Foreign Secretary: Worst-case scenario between Russia and Ukraine 'could happen as early as next week'

"This is one of the most dangerous times for European security that we have experienced since the beginning of the 20th century. Therefore, we need to show unprecedented solidarity. There are many people who want to think optimistically about this situation, but I think we need to prepare for the worst-case scenario and that scenario could happen as early as next week," the British Foreign Secretary assessed.

Ms Truss also said that Britain will stand side by side with partners to support Ukraine.

"We need strong supportUkraineand not "sell out" Ukraine with concessions on sovereignty," the British diplomat commented.

She also affirmed: "Ukraine needs our support at the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as economic support because there is a real threat of economic instability. They need our defense support and the UK is committed to continuing that support, standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine."

The British Foreign Secretary stressed that Britain "will firmly impose heavy sanctions on Russia if it attacks Ukraine".

"We will prevent Russian oligarchs from moving their money around the world. We will block their travel and make it harder for Russian companies to access our markets. We will also make it harder for Russia to access sovereign debt markets."

Ms. Truss said that Britain will join the US and Europe in "uniting in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and self-determination"./.
