This is the first visit by a British Foreign Secretary to Russia in five years. Mr Johnson acknowledged there were “complex issues” between the two countries, but there was a range of topics on which both sides were keen to cooperate.

“We want to work with you on these issues,” the head of the British Foreign Office added. Russia and Britain should discuss complex issues in their bilateral relationship, including disagreements over Ukraine and cybersecurity, the head of the British Foreign Office said firmly.

"There's also the issue of preventing the spread of nuclear weapons from North Korea. And, of course, there needs to be progress in creating a future for the Syrian people," Mr Johnson said.

But it is not limited to these issues, Moscow and London have obligations to the whole world and need to cooperate for peace and security, according to Mr. Johnson.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he hoped after meeting with his British counterpart, Boris Johnson, concrete steps would be planned to improve relations between Moscow and London.
