(Baonghean.vn) - According to Ria Novosti on January 17, in an interview with CNBC, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US does not have a "magic pot" to be able to fund Ukraine without having to pay attention to and coordinate other requests from Congress.

"Look, there's no magic dollar amount. If we don't get a budget deal, that's a real problem, for both the United States and Ukraine," Secretary of State Blinken said.

The US Secretary of State once again assured that the bulk of the money for Kiev will be allocated by Washington.

In early January 2024, John Kirby, the National Security Council’s strategic communications coordinator, said that the US government currently has no budget for new aid to Ukraine. The last security aid package for Kiev was provided after Christmas and before the New Year. That aid will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks, but no additional aid will be provided after that. The US now needs congressional support to continue doing so.

In late 2023, the US Congress failed to pass President Joe Biden's $106 billion budget proposal, which would have provided more than $60 billion in additional aid to Kiev.

The White House stressed that, in light of Russia's latest large-scale attacks on Ukraine, it is especially important that the US Congress support the White House's latest request for additional aid to Kiev./.
