German Foreign Minister: 'We strive to bring Russia and the US closer together'

European countries are interested in improving relations between Russia and the United States, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in an interview with the media.

German Foreign Minister hopes that relations between Russia and the US will normalize.

According to the diplomat, rapprochement between Moscow and Washington will allow solving many problems, including stabilizing the situation on the Korean peninsula.

"Only these countries (Russia and the United States) with the active support of China can prevent the spread of nuclear weapons," said Mr. Gabriel.

According to him, the disagreements between the Kremlin and the White House only benefit some countries. "That is why we are making every effort to bring the Americans and the Russians closer together," - said the German Foreign Minister.

He also believes that a military solution to the North Korean problem could lead to "huge losses of life", but called on the world community not to ignore Pyongyang's actions, which risk setting a bad example for other countries.
