Foreign Minister Lavrov: President Putin is ready to accept the US concept of a solution for Ukraine

According to RIA Novosti, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that at the leaders' summit in Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed his readiness to cooperate towards a solution to the Ukraine issue based on the concept proposed by the US.

The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that, before the Alaska summit, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Wittkoff brought proposals on Ukraine to Moscow, and these proposals were carefully studied there.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska repeated in detail every element of the concept put forward by special envoy Wittkoff, and asked him, when he was present at the negotiations in Anchorage: 'Is this correct? Is it correct?'. Everything was confirmed. Then President Putin announced that Russia is ready to accept their concept and proceed practically on the basis of the proposal," Foreign Minister Lavrov said.

Lavrov added that there was no direct response; the sides agreed to pause to consider the proposals. US President Donald Trump then discussed the concept with Washington's Western European allies. For Moscow, the Russian president also discussed it with Russia's neighbors, partners and allies.

"In New York at a meeting at the end of September, I reminded Secretary of State Marco Rubio about this chain of events. He said, 'Yes, we are still looking, we are trying, we are concerned,'" Lavrov added.

During a meeting in Alaska on August 15, the Presidents of Russia and the United States discussed measures to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Both leaders described the meeting as positive. After the summit, the Russian President stated that it is possible to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and emphasized Russia's interests in reaching a lasting solution.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that, in order to resolve the Ukraine crisis in the long term, it is necessary to address its root causes.
