However, he did not provide relevant evidence. "From Ukraine to Syria, and now to the UK, Russia remains an irresponsible force bringing instability to the world," Mr. Tillerson said.
The US has been in contact with allies in the UK ahead of the announcement, including a phone call between the US Secretary of State and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
"We have full confidence in the British investigation and their assessment that Russia was likely responsible for the nerve gas attack that occurred in Salisbury last week," said Rex Tillerson.
On the afternoon of March 12, British Prime Minister Teresa May said that it was "highly likely" that Russia was involved in the attempted assassination using poison on former GRU colonel Sergei Skripal, a Russian intelligence officer who had worked for British intelligence.
Mrs May has given Russia until midnight (March 13) to explain in detail, otherwise she has promised to take "more serious measures" against Russia.
