US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has no plans to resign

(Baonghean.vn)- On July 25, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert affirmed that US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has no plans to resign, quashing reports that he is showing increasing disagreements with the administration of President Donald Trump.

CNN reported that Mr. Tillerson plans to leave his position as Secretary of State before the end of this year, but Ms. Nauert has flatly denied this information.

“That’s not true,” she told reporters. “We’ve spoken to Secretary Tillerson. He’s made it clear that he intends to stay at the State Department. We have a lot of work to do. He’s aware of that. He’s really focused on the job.”

Referring to a light schedule in recent days, Ms. Nauert said the secretary of state “is taking some time off.” The State Department spokeswoman added: “He’s been busy. He just returned from a busy trip abroad, as you all know,” referring to Mr. Tillerson’s trip to the G20 summit in Germany, as well as to Türkiye, Ukraine and the Gulf states.

Since taking office in February, the former Exxon Mobil chairman and CEO has been under pressure due to his lack of government experience and plans to cut 30% of the State Department’s budget, which employs more than 70,000 people in Washington and around the world.
