US Secretary of State to meet North Korean leader on October 7
The US State Department announced on October 2 that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on October 7 to promote denuclearization efforts.
There, he will meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.
In addition, according to the spokesman, Mr. Pompeo will also visit Japan and China.
In late September, the White House revealed that Washington was making arrangements to hold a second meeting between President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un after Pyongyang sent a letter requesting another summit following their first meeting in Singapore last June.
At this meeting, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un pledged to work towards "complete denuclearization" of the Korean peninsula.
In return, President Trump promised security guarantees from the US to North Korea.
However, so far, negotiations on the denuclearization process have not made any progress and Pyongyang has criticized the US for always making unilateral demands without fulfilling its commitments./.
