Russian and US Foreign Ministers hold phone talks to discuss hot issues
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and US Secretary of State Tillerson had a phone call on January 24 about the situation in North Korea and Türkiye's military campaign in Syria.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the two top diplomats agreed on the need to respect the UN Security Council resolutions on the North Korean issue, considering this a mechanism to push the relevant parties to sit at the six-party talks table that have been stalled since 2010.

The phone call took place amid positive signs of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, especially after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's New Year message hinted at North Korea's participation in the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea.
The South Korean government is trying to find a way to turn this peaceful atmosphere into an opportunity to resume negotiations on North Korea's nuclear and missile ambitions, in which dialogue between North Korea and the US is considered to play a very important role./.
