"It is a reflection of the US policy of breaking all security agreements in the Euro-Atlantic region," Sergei Lavrov said of the US increase in its troop presence in Poland.
He also said that this had undermined one of the key provisions of the law between Russia and NATO, which stipulates that combat forces cannot be deployed on the territory of new member states of the Alliance on a permanent basis.
Minister Lavrov noted that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation surrounding the negotiations between Warsaw and Washington, and the decision to increase the deployment of the expeditionary force will not add anything to European security.
“Russia is not preparing to attack Poland or any other NATO country, everyone knows this and everyone understands this,” the Russian Foreign Minister added.
Previously, Warsaw proposed that the United States deploy an American armored division on a permanent basis in Poland, at a cost of about $1.5-2 billion.
Such a proposal would come outside the NATO framework and on a bilateral basis. Polish President Andrzej Duda wants to call the base “Fort Trump”.
Currently, there are about 4,500 US soldiers stationed on Polish territory as part of the US armored brigade and multinational battalion group.
On April 29, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced on Polish television that the decision to increase the number of US troops in the country had been made and that the parties were now discussing all the details.
