According to Ria Novosti on February 8, at a press conference after a meeting with the EU's foreign affairs chief, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the scale of the conflict and the use of Russian artillery had reached its maximum. "We are really short of artillery shells. And the main goal is not to run out of artillery shells," said Foreign Minister Kuleba.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has called on the European Union to take "urgent steps" to increase deliveries of artillery shells, which Kiev says are urgently needed to defend the frontline against Russia.

Foreign Minister Kuleba told Europe's top diplomat Josep Borrell at a press conference that he expected the EU to ease regulations and sign "long-term contracts" with defence companies to boost production of artillery shells.

“If you ask a soldier at the front what he needs most right now, the answer will be artillery shells,” he said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian diplomat stated that if Western arms supplies stop, Ukraine will “fight with shovels.” This is how Mr. Kuleba commented, following the statement of the White House National Security Council’s strategic communications coordinator, John Kirby, that US aid to Kiev has stopped, the money has been exhausted before Congress passed a new funding request.
