Watching TV too much reduces sperm count?
Watching TV more than 5 hours a day can affect male fertility, causing sperm count to decrease by more than 30% compared to normal people.
Experts at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) studied 1,200 men. The results showed that those who watched TV for more than 5 hours/day had a sperm density of 37 million/ml, according to Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, this density in people who do not spend time watching TV is 52 million/ml. The study was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Additionally, people who watch a lot of TV also have lower levels of the male sex hormone testosterone. This hormone is essential for the body to produce sperm.
The Danish scientists also noted that sitting in front of a computer screen did not have the same effect on men. They suggested that people who watch a lot of TV may spend less time exercising, an important habit for maintaining fertility.
Previously, a 2013 study in the US found that spending 15 hours of exercise per week will help men increase sperm count.
Numerous studies over the past 20 years have shown that men's sperm counts are falling at an alarming rate. Some scientists believe that the cause may be a diet too high in fat.
Another controversial cause is that men are affected by a chemical called BPA, which is often found in some plastic products and items.
