Pop star George Michael dies on Christmas Eve

Pop star George Michael has died at his home at the age of 53. He was a former member of Wham! with hits such as Careless Whisper, Club Tropicana, Last Christmas.

The above information was confirmed by George Michael's representative. Michael is a member of the famous band Wham!. Known for his hits Club Tropicana, Last Christmas, Careless Whisper... he has sold more than 100 million albums during his career spanning nearly four decades.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that our beloved son, brother and friend, George, passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas holidays," said a statement from George Michael's representative.

George Michael had a history of severe pneumonia that nearly killed him in 2011 but was later treated promptly at a hospital in Vienna.

Police earlier confirmed there was a report of a death in Oxfordshire but said it was not an emergency.

George Michael's family are devastated and have asked for no further comment at this time.
