The school where students don't take breaks
(Baonghean.vn) - Surely everyone will be surprised if they come to Duc Son Primary School (Anh Son) during break time. The drum sounds, students rush out of the classroom, looking for the small bookcases under the trees, called "Green Library". The doors are already open, each student finds a book they like and finds a place to sit and read.
After a few minutes of chatter and laughter, the school yard became quiet again. Under the cool shade of the trees, the students focused on their books. No one thought it was recess, but rather an extracurricular activity. Because, for elementary school children, recess is usually the time for them to play and run around freely.

During the break between classes, students of Duc Son Primary School (Anh Son) take the opportunity to read books and newspapers. |
Answering this question, teacher Nguyen Thi Thuy (Head teacher of class 4A) said: “It has become a habit that for over a year now, before school hours and during recess, the students of the school no longer play or run around but focus on reading books. Therefore, during recess, order is still maintained and the schoolyard is still completely silent.”

When asked about her reading habits, Nguyen Dieu Linh (class 5A) said: “Every day I come here to get books to read before class and during recess. I like reading stories about Uncle Ho the most.” Nguyen Huu Quynh Trang (class 2C) confided: “I can’t read as fast as my seniors, so I often choose comic books to read. Comic books are very fast to read, during recess I can read 2-3 stories.”
Discussing the usefulness of the "Green Library", Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy affirmed that reading books before class and during breaks will help students expand their knowledge, increase their communication and behavioral skills, and support their acquisition of social subjects. In particular, reading books regularly will help students learn Vietnamese well, improve their reading and comprehension skills, and create excitement in class.

According to teacher Nguyen Canh Dung - Principal of Duc Son Primary School, the "Green Library" model was built since the previous school year, and has been really effective so far, even exceeding initial expectations. Based on the fact that the school library is small and students often hesitate to borrow books, the Board of Directors decided to implement this model.
“Green Library” not only means bookshelves placed under the shade of green trees but also has the meaning of being environmentally friendly, stimulating the curiosity and interest of young students. The source of books and newspapers is mobilized from teachers and students, before being put into the shelves, the Board of Directors reviews, orients the content and then hands it over to the staff in charge of the Management Team.

In addition to supporting cultural subjects, building a "Green Library" also helps students form a reading culture, be aware of preserving books and newspapers, and not get caught up in unhealthy things during the current "explosion" of information on the Internet.
Therefore, the school will continue to strengthen and expand its scale by mobilizing donations of books and funds to purchase more suitable books.
