A Swedish court recently sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for “online rape,” RT reported on December 1.

The subject mentioned above is Bjorn Samstrom, 41 years old, accused of threatening and forcing victims to perform sexual acts in front of webcams. The Uppsala District Court, Uppsala City - Sweden on November 30 announced that Samstrom was accused of sexually assaulting 27 children online in the US, Canada and the UK during the period of 2015-2017, according to AP.

It is the first time a person has been convicted of online rape in Sweden, a country with extremely strict rape laws. In October, the National Post reported that Samstrom forced victims he met online to strip and perform sexual acts in front of his computer screen at his request.

If the victims did not comply, he would threaten to post their nude photos on porn sites or even kill their relatives. "The victims were terrified. They described that they had no choice. They did as he asked," – National Post quoted prosecutor Annika Wennerström as saying.

Samström’s “cyber rape” came to light when authorities were investigating separate sexual assault allegations against him, according to Wennerström. While investigating those allegations, authorities discovered a series of “cyber rape” videos he had filmed. Wennerström also said the alleged pervert’s voice could be heard clearly in some of the videos.

Ms Wennerström called Samström's conviction a legal victory after a "challenging" trial. "Technology has no limits. So we also have to change the concept of rape," Ms Wennerström stressed, and said she would not take such cases lightly.
