(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of the 4th day of Tet, at Lach Con fishing wharf, Hoang Mai town, dozens of fishing boats of Quynh Di ward docked with full holds of fish. Joy was evident on the faces of the weather-beaten fishermen.

Although it was Tet holiday, the working atmosphere at the fishing port was bustling. Dozens of boats docked with full fish holds. On shore, fishermen's families, cargo trucks, and traders were waiting to transfer fish to shore. According to the concept of seafarers, to have a successful fishing year, each boat chooses a departure day that is considered lucky. The fishermen of Quynh Di ward all chose the 3rd day of the lunar calendar to set out. The first fishing trip of the year mainly consisted of small boats fishing in the nearshore area off Lach Con and the waters south of Mat Island.

Captain Nguyen Duc Huy, block 11, Quynh Di ward said: The ship departed on the morning of the 3rd day of Tet, after only 1 day and night, it had caught 15 tons of fish. This trip was mainly herring, a type of fish only as big as two fingertips, with a flat body. The fish arriving at the port were purchased on the spot, the selling price fluctuated from 9,000 VND/1 kg, with a total revenue of 135 million VND.

Fish are purchased by traders right at the wharf.

Mr. Huy's boat has 7 workers, after 1 day and night at sea, they are paid 3.5 million VND/person. Some other boats like Mr. Tran Danh Dong's boat in block 12 only go out to sea for a day, so they fish in closer waters. The boat departed at 2:00 p.m. on the 3rd day of Tet and by 6:00 a.m. on the 4th day of Tet, it had docked with more than 5 tons of fish. Not only do fishermen earn high incomes at sea, but the boats also create jobs for women who load and unload fish on shore and provide fishing logistics services. On the first day of the year, the bounty of the sea brought joy and hope to the fishermen for a new year of favorable weather and wind, with full holds of shrimp and fish.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Xan - Chairman of Phu Loi Craft Village Association, Quynh Di Ward, said: Quynh Di Ward currently has 185 boats, of which 85 have a capacity of 200-400 CV participating in fishing in the waters of Quang Nam and Da Nang. Although the fishing industry depends heavily on the weather, it still brings stable income to fishermen. We hope that the State will have more preferential policies and increase capital for loans to build ships according to Decree 67 so that Quynh Di fishermen can continue to develop the fishing industry, both enriching their families and contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the country.

Saying goodbye to the fishermen, we also shared their joy of a good harvest. With the first trip of the year bringing a bumper harvest, the hope of a successful fishing season will no longer be a distant dream for the fishermen.
