Fishermen from Quynh Long donate an 800kg whale shark.
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of August 15th, at the People's Committee office of Quynh Long commune, fisherman Vu Ngoc Dien donated an 800kg whale shark to the Vietnam National Museum of Nature.
Previously, on August 12th, fisherman Vu Ngoc Dien (residing in Minh Thanh village, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district) was operating the vessel NA 93197TS fishing with a purse seine net off the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin, approximately 145 nautical miles from shore. During the fishing operation, he discovered a whale shark, measuring 410 cm in length and 92 cm in width (including fins), weighing approximately 800 kg, that had died after becoming entangled in the net.
After catching the "giant" fish, Mr. Dien managed to bring the precious fish onto the boat, carefully packed it in ice, and then sailed back to shore. At dawn on August 13th, after the boat docked at Lach Quen port, fisherman Vu Ngoc Dien contacted the People's Committee of Quynh Long commune to ask them to contact the Vietnam Natural History Museum to donate the whale shark for research and display.
Upon receiving the information, on the morning of August 15th, museum staff arrived in Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district to receive the fish.
