Can people 21 years and over bet on football?

The drafting committee of the decree on betting on horse racing, dog racing and international football has just announced that after receiving comments from ministries and branches, it will officially complete the decree to submit to the Government before December 1.

According to comments from relevant ministries and units, the draft decree will be completed in the direction of: minimum and maximum betting levels decided by the Government.

After one year of betting business operations, the enterprise will be allowed to use the method of distributing betting tickets through terminals in Vietnam, and to distribute betting tickets via telephone.

The Ministry of Finance shall preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to propose and submit to the Prime Minister for decision to select a number of localities to pilot football betting business. The pilot period shall not exceed 5 years. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance shall supplement clear and strict regulations to minimize the possibility of complaints after the pilot period.

Bettors must be 21 years of age or older and have full civil capacity and conduct as prescribed by law. Thus, the age requirement has changed from the 18-year-old age requirement in the original draft.

Once raised nearly a decade ago, after much controversy, it now seems that the legalization of football betting, horse racing, and dog racing in Vietnam has reached the final stages of preparation to take shape.

Previously, in the draft sent, the Ministry of Finance stipulated that the minimum bet for one time is 10,000 VND, the maximum for each player in one day with each product is one million VND.
