Ordinary but not mediocre
Ms. Lanh, from Hong Ngu District (Dong Thap), drifted to Ben Luc District (Long An) to sell lottery tickets. The story of her "verbally" selling 20 lottery tickets to the three-wheeled vehicle driver Do Ngoc Tuan (Ba Chanh Thau Street, Ben Luc Town), until the number of these tickets won the prize of 6.6 billion VND, the poor lottery seller still gave all the tickets to the winner to get 200,000 VND; then the winner gave her the entire winning ticket... for a while, causing public opinion to be excited about the fact that there are still many good people in this life.
It was the fairy tale-like “love” and chivalry in Ms. Lanh’s words: “He hasn’t paid for these lottery tickets yet, whether they win or lose, they’re his, if I don’t pay, what will the world think of me!” that moved writer Nguyen Manh Tuan when he read the article. On a chance occasion when he went to Ben Luc to meet a fellow writer, the writer had the chance to meet Ms. Lanh in person: a woman who was so honest, straightforward, and simple in her words that the writer felt surprised.
Writer Nguyen Manh Tuan said: “A person who earns a living by selling lottery tickets is so real that the person opposite feels moved by their own qualities. Ms. Lanh talked to me in a light, carefree, and rustic way, not in a righteous way, and I quickly realized that she was an attractive character for a film script about ordinary but not trivial people. Nowadays, there is no shortage of people who consider money too important, but there are also people who, even though they pick up every penny on the way to make a living, are still honest, loyal, and do not do unjust things, destroy their conscience for money.”
So the script for the movie "Trùng số" was written. To make it more concise and attractive, the screenwriter reinforced and interwoven many characters and created situations to make the real story more complete, raising the ideology and meaning but not exaggerating. Then, through the relationship with the actress, supermodel BB Pham (currently the wife of director Dustin Nguyen) since she played the main role in the movie "Tears from afar" with the script by Nguyen Manh Tuan, the script for "Trùng số" was discussed and prepared by all three of them more than 2 years ago, and then started filming in mid-2014.
Director Dustin Nguyen shared: “This true story made me really want to make a film about the miracles in society and people's reactions to this incident. I hope that after watching it, the audience will feel happy about life, because life still has many simple, unexpected joys around us.”
Comedy but touches emotions
Writer Nguyen Manh Tuan said he was satisfied with his scripts when Dustin Nguyen transferred them to the big screen because Dustin Nguyen was "too meticulous with every frame, setting, and choice of actors and had a team of skilled professionals working together in all departments". The author of famous film scripts such as Dong Tien Xuong Mau, Huong Nghiep, Nguoi Dan Ba Weak, Blouse Trang, Nghe Bao... continued: "Dustin Nguyen did not follow the type of vulgar comedy when making this film, but the main purpose was to create an emotional film. Making a tickle film is simpler, but we try to make the film above the level of normal entertainment and require viewers to have absorption. It is a comedy, but the root of Trung So is emotion, bringing tears to the audience. We also try our best, as for how the audience is moved, let the market test".
Taking on the roles in the film are Dustin Nguyen, Thu Trang, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Chi Tai, Kim Xuan, Phi Thanh Van, Tieu Bao Quoc... The current rising comedian - Thu Trang wittily said: "I believe each character in the film will make the audience not only happy or sad with them but also have messages that the film crew will "pocket" to take home."
In particular, young actress Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, who plays Thom - inspired by Ms. Lanh, a lottery ticket seller, shared: “This is my most complete role after the success of the role of Nuong in Canh Dong Bat Tan. After being praised by many colleagues after watching the film, I feel happy because I put a lot of hope and effort into this role. The role from the prototype Ms. Lanh has helped me have more confidence in life.”
