On the morning of March 18, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly held a national online conference to disseminate the Resolution of the 6th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee and introduce a number of topics on the elderly in 2023 to key officials of the association of the elderly nationwide.

At the conference, key officials of the association of the elderly and outstanding elderly people nationwide listened to Politburo member, Permanent member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Committee Truong Thi Mai introduce issues related to the elderly in the country and the world; policies and resources of the Party and State to care for, encourage and create conditions for the elderly to live happily, healthily and usefully.
According to the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, with many policies to care for the elderly, every year 1.1 million elderly people nationwide are congratulated and celebrated their longevity; 3 million elderly people have their health records established; nearly 4 million elderly people receive regular health check-ups; over 95% of elderly people have health insurance cards.

Currently, there are 2.5 million people participating in 77,000 grassroots senior clubs. The intergenerational self-help club model with 170,000 participants is highly appreciated by the world and won the first prize for "Initiative for a healthy aging Asia".
Vietnam is currently one of the countries with the fastest aging population in the world. The proportion of the population over 60 years old in Vietnam in 2022 is 12% and by 2050 it will be 28%.
Rapid population aging is one of the major challenges that Vietnam must prepare for and address in the coming time. The 13th National Party Congress documents predicted this trend and the specific conditions that need to be prepared to respond to reality.
The way of looking at the issue of population aging greatly affects the role, status and rights of the elderly as well as the resources contributing to the sustainable development of society.

According to comrade Truong Thi Mai, it is necessary to recognize the elderly, the aging population group, as having an important role and contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, as a support for the younger generations, instead of seeing them only as beneficiaries of social benefits.
He suggested that the Central Committee and the Elderly Associations at all levels continue to promote the movement “Old Age - Bright Example”, promote the achievements, continue to contribute to the development of the country and the locality; continue to advise the Party, State, and National Assembly on appropriate policies to care for the elderly, especially in the current period of rapidly increasing population aging. The elderly need to enjoy their old age with respect and security; to live healthy and happy lives.

Party committees and authorities at all levels need to create consensus and high unity in action to better carry out the task of protecting, caring for, and promoting the role of the elderly.
The conference listened to Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department directly disseminate the Resolution and inform about some international and domestic contents; disseminate the Resolution of the 6th Central Conference, 13th tenure with the topics "Continuing to build and perfect the socialist rule-of-law state of Vietnam in the new period".
Topics: "Continuing to innovate the Party's leadership and governance methods over the political system in the new period"; "Continuing to promote industrialization and modernization of the country to 2030, with a vision to 2045"; "Orientation of the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050".
The conference also heard the leader of the Central Internal Affairs Commission introduce some basic contents of the book by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on the fight against corruption and negativity./.
