However, many people have overcome their circumstances and themselves to demonstrate the good qualities of a soldier, including Mr. Luong Van Yen in Lien Dinh village, Chi Khe commune (Con Cuong).

Veteran Luong Van Yen fought against the Americans in the Quang Tri battlefield with Regiment 270. After being discharged, he returned to his hometown to start a family and had 5 children. Initially, all 5 of his children were born healthy, but then, the first two children and the youngest became ill due to the effects of dioxin poisoning from him. The youngest child was bedridden for many years and then died.

Loving his children, he did all kinds of jobs to earn money for medical treatment and education for them. Family life was difficult both mentally and physically, and there were times when Mr. Yen thought he could not overcome it.

However, with the determination of a soldier and a party member who did not accept poverty, he received a hilly land of more than 10 hectares to reclaim for a farm. Mr. Luong Van Yen shared: During my time in the army, I joined my comrades in the fight to protect the Fatherland. Now I am luckier than many people because I can still return, so as long as I have the strength, I must try to work hard to set an example for my children and grandchildren to follow, I must strive to improve myself, not wait or rely on others.

That veteran said what he did, on an area of ​​10 hectares he planted 5 hectares of hybrid acacia and 7 hectares of meter trees, 1,000 mahogany trees, 500 lychee trees and grazed cows. Following the motto "taking short-term to support long-term", his garden is now ready for harvest, his herd of cows has increased from 2 to more than 20. In addition, he also dug a pond to raise fish and raised hundreds of chickens. Thanks to diversifying the types of plants and animals, now after deducting expenses, he earns a profit of 40 - 50 million VND per year.

Mr. Yen's herd of more than 20 cows brings in tens of millions of dong each year.

Not only taking care of the family's economic development, he is also willing to share his experiences with the villagers in developing the farm economy. His family's economy is quite good, he also has the conditions to take care of his children's education, currently his two children have stable jobs to help the family pay for their brother's medical treatment.

Confiding in us, he said he did not dare to think that he would have the property he has today because when he first came here, the large hill area was just an empty land, bare hills, difficult roads, and lack of water in all aspects, but thanks to the will and determination of a soldier who had experienced in the army, he overcame everything.

Mr. Yen's more than 500 lychee trees will be harvested next year.
