Veteran shrimp farmer earns over 2 billion VND per season.

(Baonghean.vn) - This year, many shrimp farmers suffered crop failures in the first season, with the overall yield in Dien Chau district reaching only about 3.5 tons/hectare. In contrast, the bio-secure shrimp farming model following the VietGAP standard implemented by veteran Ngo Xuan Dai in Dien Chau yielded up to 10 tons/hectare.

Having started farming in early May, after 85 days of cultivation, Mr. Ngo Xuan Dai is now harvesting his first crop of shrimp from 4 hectares. Thanks to the strict application of safe farming practices, his first crop still yielded 10 tons per hectare, the highest ever recorded in Dien Chau.

Thanks to applying Vietnamese GAP standards in shrimp farming, ensuring biosecurity, meticulous record-keeping throughout the process, and minimizing the use of chemicals, Mr. Dai's farmed shrimp are highly valued by customers. In the first crop, shrimp sold at his pond were purchased by traders for 120,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Dai is directly involved in all stages of shrimp farming and harvesting to ensure that the farmed shrimp meet food safety and hygiene standards.

Thus, with 4 hectares of shrimp in the first crop, Mr. Dai's family earned nearly 4.5 billion VND, and after deducting all expenses, he made a profit of about 2 billion VND.

According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Dai, "to have such a successful shrimp harvest, it is necessary to master farming techniques, ensure a clean water environment, and closely monitor diseases. I expect to finish harvesting the first shrimp crop by the end of July, and then I will continue to renovate the ponds to start farming the second crop."

Besides ensuring his family's shrimp farm is highly efficient, Mr. Dai regularly assists other shrimp farmers in the commune on how to select breeds and care for shrimp in a biosecure manner.
