Woman jailed twice for selling children abroad to marry
(Baonghean.vn) - Out of greed, Hoa twice took women across the border to sell them. Her actions were exposed when the victims returned to their country and filed a complaint with the police.
Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened a trial of defendants Vy Thi Hoa (born 1964) and Ven Van Manh (born 1961), both residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "Buying and selling children".
Around 2013, while on a business trip to Mong Cai city (Quang Ninh), Hoa met a woman named Hong (unknown background and address). Hong told Hoa to find women to take to China to sell for marriage and get paid.

Back home, Hoa contacted Manh and said that she would find women to sell for money. A week later, Manh went to meet a family in Bao Nam commune, Ky Son district to discuss finding women to go to China. The father told Manh: "If you give the family 60 million VND, I will ask the daughter Xeo Thi T. (born in 1998) if she will go?"
After that, the father asked his daughter many times, “Are you going to China to get married?” However, the girl said nothing and followed her friends into the village to play.
About 20 days later, seeing that his family was in difficult circumstances and knowing that some people in the village had a lot of money going to China, T. agreed to go abroad.
After knowing that T. agreed to go, Manh informed Hoa. Hoa took T. to China to hand over to Hong.
In a foreign country, Hong sold T. to a Chinese man to marry. After this transaction, Hoa profited 5 million VND, Manh pocketed 10 million VND, and T.'s family received 60 million VND.
The victim lived as husband and wife with the Chinese man until 2016, when she returned to Vietnam. On May 23, 2023, T. filed a complaint against the subjects for child trafficking to the police.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted to their crimes. Defendant Hoa said that because Hong promised her money, she found women to sell in China. It is worth noting that previously in 2014, Vy Thi Hoa was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the crime of "Human trafficking".
The victim attending the trial asked for a reduced sentence for the defendants and did not request civil compensation.
After considering the role of each defendant, the panel sentenced defendant Vy Thi Hoa to 9 years in prison and Ven Van Manh to 8 years in prison for the crime of "Trafficking children". As for the woman named Hong, because the subjects did not know her background, there was no basis for investigation and prosecution.
