(Baonghean.vn) - Although the war has long since ended, bombs, mines, and explosives left over in Nam Can commune (Ky Son) are still a burning issue, causing insecurity for the people.

For many years now, Mrs. Luong Thi Tem's family, like many other households in Noong De village, Nam Can commune, have had to live in anxiety and high alertness every time they garden or go to the fields.

Ms. Tem said: Currently, there are many bombs, mines, and explosives left in the village area as well as on the people's production land. Many people have discovered and dug up bombs and mines while farming. Therefore, people cannot help but feel worried and insecure. The most worrying thing is the children, many of whom have picked up artillery shells and explosives but because they do not know, they still innocently play with them.

According to statistics from the Noong De Village Management Board, in recent years there have been many tragic accidents caused by bombs, mines, and explosives left over from the war, killing 3 people and leaving many people with lifelong disabilities. Not to mention, people's livestock often die from stepping on bombs and mines, affecting the economy and lives of the people.

According to Mr. Lau Ba Chay - Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Can Commune (Ky Son): After the war, the number of bombs and mines remaining in the area was very large, especially in Noong De village, followed by Khanh Thanh, Truong Son, Tien Tieu villages. Therefore, the people's worries and insecurity are well-founded. In fact, the commune has coordinated with the District Military Command to organize many rounds of clearing remaining bombs, mines, and explosives, but due to many objective difficulties, the results have not been high and not thorough.

Nam Can Commune (Ky Son) is a border area adjacent to Laos. During the resistance war against the US imperialists, this was a strategic location for carrying out logistics tasks, providing human and material support to the battlefields of Laos and South Vietnam. Therefore, this border area became a key target of US imperialism, and the fact that many bombs and ammunition remained after the war was a reality.
