Clip of people risking their lives to collect firewood on Nam Mo River:
For many days now, the Nam Mo River has been rising due to heavy rains and floods. Taking advantage of this, many people in Ta Ca Commune (Ky Son) have been going to the river to collect firewood.
In the fast flowing water, some people wearing life jackets rushed into the river to retrieve large logs.
Women in Binh Son 1 village also risked their lives going down to the river to collect firewood.
Others stood on the shore waiting for the firewood to float down.
The river water rose high, causing danger but many children still went to the river to collect firewood.
Struggling to bring a log to shore is not easy, especially when the water is high and the rescuer is not equipped with a life jacket, which is very dangerous to life.
Many children carry firewood home by electric bicycle.
Many large logs were split on the spot by local people before being brought home. A representative of Ta Ca commune's government said that at the beginning of the flood season, the commune's People's Committee had sent out a document to the villages requesting and advising people not to go to the river to collect firewood, as it could endanger their lives. However, due to the mentality of "regretting their belongings", people still risked going to the river to collect them.
