(Baonghean.vn) - Before Tet, the road from Tham Hin village (Nam Can commune, Ky Son district) to Ca Duoi village in Na Ngoi commune was dubbed "the most miserable road in western Nghe An" due to its muddy conditions. And now, with the dry season approaching, people in these areas are even more miserable because of the dust.

Nearly a month ago, the more than 15-kilometer-long dirt road in Na Ngoi commune was leveled. Although it is now less bumpy and traffic flows more easily, residents on both sides of the road, especially the section from Phu Kha village to Ca Duoi village, have to endure clouds of white dust.

In some areas of Phu Kha 1 village, according to our observations, the layer of dust is up to 3 centimeters thick. Pedestrians and motorcyclists are constantly covered in a thick layer of dust. The worst part is when encountering cars; some people without masks or glasses have to run into a side alley to avoid the car before daring to continue.

Mr. Vu Ba Tong, a resident of Phu Kha 1 village, said: "The muddy days during the rain were sometimes more bearable. Now, every day the house is covered in dust; clothes and bedding that have just been washed and hung out to dry turn gray when a truck passes by. Many households here have gotten used to it; whenever they hear a truck, they run out and close the doors, but it doesn't help much."

We were sitting at Mr. Lam and Mrs. Loan's grocery store in Phu Kha village while they were having lunch. The table was completely enclosed to protect from the dust. A convoy of three trucks passed by, kicking up clouds of dust, and everyone ran inside to escape.

Ms. Loan confided: "For almost a month now, mealtimes have been a nightmare. How can we eat with this dust? Just hearing the trucks makes us scared. Hundreds of trucks carrying wood and building materials pass by every day – who can eat under such conditions? In the first few days, I tried watering the road to lessen the dust, but look, with this thick dust, watering for just a few minutes before a truck passes by is pointless."

Clearly, repairing the road for the people is the right thing to do, but I think the authorities and the contractor need to take measures to prevent dust from affecting the residents. It's unclear when this road will be completed, but given the current situation, the people of Na Ngoi will still have to live with the dust.
