Within the past year, people in the mountainous district of Con Cuong, Tuong Duong (Nghe An) have caught 5 giant eel fish.
The eel fish is considered a specialty of the western region of Nghe An. The meat of the eel fish is considered very delicious, has few bones, and has high nutritional value, so it is very popular with diners and they are willing to pay a high price, from 900,000 - 1,000,000 VND/kg. This is a very rare specialty, often living in rock crevices in rivers and streams - where the water flows rapidly.
The eel is a freshwater fish with smooth skin, a long, tapered body, a round body, and a head with long whiskers. To catch large eel, people use a hook, net, or use barbs to spear the fish.
