These days, many people in Yen Thanh and Tan Ky districts are surprised to see a herd of buffalo grazing in the rice fields after harvest. When asked, they learned that this is a herd of billion-dollar buffalo owned by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong in Pha Danh commune, Ky Son district.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong said that taking advantage of the large rice fields after harvest, he mobilized capital from bank loans and friends of nearly 2 billion VND to buy more than 100 skinny buffaloes in Laos and in the area.Ky Son district, use large trucks to transport them downstream for grazing.
With that number of buffalo, he divided them into 2 herds. One herd of nearly 50 buffalo grazed in Van Thanh commune (Yen Thanh); another herd of 65 buffalo grazed in some fields in Tan Ky district.

"Because the buffaloes were bought from many places, at first there was a phenomenon of buffaloes butting each other, but then they got used to the herd so grazing was favorable. During the process of grazing the buffaloes in the fields, there was no impact on production and the fields had more buffalo manure, so the local people supported it. The grazing time was about 2 months, fully vaccinated against diseases, when the buffaloes were fattened they would be sold, hopefullymarket"Good consumption will bring profit," Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong shared.
Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine said: Currently, in the fields of Thanh Chuong, Nghi Loc, Yen Thanh... there have appeared large herds of buffalo and cows that people bought to graze and fatten.
This is a very convenient form of fattening, because it takes advantage of abundant natural food sources. However, because buffaloes and cows are purchased from many different regions, they need to be fully and promptly vaccinated against diseases for fattening buffaloes and cows to be effective./.
