People in Nghe An province flock to collect 'bounties from the sea'.

After typhoon number 4, the beach of Dien Trung commune, Dien Chau district, was covered in white due to clams washing ashore. The entire village rushed to the beach to collect tons of "sea bounty".

Early in the morning of September 20th, hundreds of coastal residents of Dien Trung commune brought tools to collect clams that had washed ashore after typhoon number 4.

Because of the huge amount of clams washed ashore, covering the entire beach in white, everyone was quick to pick them up and put them into sacks, baskets, and sieves, creating a lively atmosphere.

Mr. Nguyen Cuong, a resident of Dien Trung commune, said that normally after each storm and prolonged rain, the sea waves wash soil and white clams ashore. This time, a very large quantity of white clams washed ashore. Therefore, from early morning, the whole village brought tools to the beach to collect clams. Some people collected nearly 100 kg of clams in just a few hours. This type of sea clam sells for 20,000 - 25,000 VND/kg.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huynh Trinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Trung commune: "As in previous instances, after typhoon No. 4, a large quantity of clams washed ashore, causing many people in the commune to flock to collect this 'bounty from the sea,' within just a few hours. Most people collect the clams to process them into food, while some households sell them to traders. It is estimated that the people of Dien Trung commune collected tons of clams after typhoon No. 4."

Mr. Le The Hieu, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Dien Chau District, said: "Normally, after a storm subsides, a large number of clams wash ashore. This happens not only in Dien Trung commune but also on beaches in other communes such as Dien Hai, Dien Bich, Dien Thanh, etc. These are considered a 'bounty from the sea,' so whenever there's news of clams washing ashore, the whole village rushes to collect them to sell."
