Man arrested while transporting red-shanked douc langur for sale
(Baonghean.vn) - Two rare animals, considered the queen of primates because of their beauty, were put in sacks by men to be sold.
On January 14, Thanh Chuong District Police (Nghe An) said that the unit is still waiting for the results of the appraisal from the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources to consider handling Dinh Nho Thanh (61 years old) and Tran Thi Thu Huyen (30 years old, both residing in Huong Son District, Ha Tinh).
"If the results are consistent with the police's assessment by the naked eye and experience, these people will be prosecuted for violating regulations on protecting animals on the list of endangered, rare, and prioritized species for protection," said Lieutenant Nguyen Manh Ha, the investigator handling this case.

According to Lieutenant Ha, to crack this case, Thanh Chuong District Police had been secretly monitoring for more than half a year. On December 28, through intelligence sources, the police stopped Mr. Dinh Nho Thanh on Ho Chi Minh Road through Thanh Xuan Commune when he was riding a motorbike carrying sacks from Huong Son District.
Checking the sack, the police discovered 2 individuals suspected to be red-shanked douc langurs and 3 individuals suspected to be monkeys. Working with the police, Mr. Thanh said that Huyen hired him to transport these animals to Nghe An for sale.
Searching Huyen’s house, the police continued to discover 6 more individuals suspected to be weasels. All the animals weighed more than 90 kg, and were dead when discovered. Huyen said she bought these wild animals from Laos to sell for profit.

"In our opinion, this is definitely a red-shanked douc langur, but to prosecute, it must be accurately assessed and follow proper procedures," said Lieutenant Ha.
The red-shanked douc langur, also known as the red-shanked douc langur, is the most colorful of all primates. The red-shanked douc langur is listed on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species and CITES Global Trade Prohibited List. In Vietnam, this animal is classified in Group IB, which prohibits the buying, selling, storing, hunting, etc.
