Having not yet paid a loan of 50 million VND with an interest rate of 500,000 VND per day, the man was beaten and detained by a group of debt collectors.
On April 22, Ninh Thuan police announced that they had just prosecuted and detained Nguyen Thanh The Lam (35 years old) and three accomplices for the acts of Extortion and Illegal detention.

According to the investigation, Lam's group specializes in loan sharking in Ninh Thuan. He lent Mr. Lam The Kien (40 years old), a honeycomb coal trader in Phan Rang, 50 million VND, paying 500,000 VND in interest each day, in mid-March, but did not agree on a repayment time.
On the morning of April 3, in a house on Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Phu Ha Ward, when Lam heard the debtor say he could not pay the principal and interest, he immediately rushed in to beat him, took off his clothes and searched for his documents. Mr. Kien was placed under house arrest, surrounded by Lam's juniors who took turns guarding him.
In the afternoon of two days later, when the debt repayment agreement failed, the group went to the victim's house to collect the furniture; then forced the debtor to go to the honeycomb coal dealers to collect the money. While they were not on guard, the man escaped and reported to the police.
Searching the home of the loan shark group, the police seized many machetes, knives, iron pipes, support tools, five pepper spray cans...
