Foreign man jailed for going to Nghe An border area to sell drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Being lured, Sua Ly Tho went to the Vietnam - Laos border area to buy and sell drugs to customers and was caught red-handed by Nghe An Border Guard.
On April 6, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Sua Ly Tho (born 1968), Lao nationality, for the crime of"Illegal drug trafficking".
According to the indictment, on the morning of June 29, 2021, Sua Ly Tho was invited by a man from the same village named Sa Cong to the Vietnam - Laos border area to meet and get money to buy drugs from a customer (unknown background and specific address). Sa Cong received 2.7 million VND from the customer and then gave Tho 1.5 million VND to buy drugs.

The next morning, Tho used 1.4 million VND to buy more than 17 grams of pink meth, and the remaining 100,000 VND to buy opium resin for use. At 3:00 p.m. the same day, following Sa Cong's instructions, Tho took the drugs to deliver to customers at the border area and was caught red-handed by the working group of Thong Thu Border Guard Station, Nghe An Border Guard, who confiscated the evidence of drugs and a sharp knife.
At the trial, through an interpreter, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that after divorcing his wife, he lived alone in a shack. Due to poverty, the defendant listened to the bad guys' enticement, went to buy drugs and was arrested by Nghe An border guards.
The defendant expressed his sincerity in his confession, repented, and asked the court to consider reducing his sentence.
After considering the case comprehensively, the panel sentenced defendant Sua Ly Tho to 8 years in prison for "Illegal drug trafficking".
