Man confesses to his lover about disposing of his own child's body

On February 26, Colonel Tran Muu (Deputy Director, Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang Police) personally went down to the canoe to direct the working group to search for the body of an 8-year-old girl who was murdered by her father and dumped in the Han River. However, the search has not yielded any results in the past 2 days, despite dozens of rescue police and many divers continuously "sweeping" the area under Thuan Phuoc Bridge (connecting Hai Chau and Son Tra districts).

"Suspect Bui Van Hoi confessed that he had put in two large rocks weighing about 10kg, so the sack containing the girl's body weighed about 30kg and must have sunk to the bottom of the river. The search was difficult," said Colonel Muu.

Police have notified fishermen in the Han River estuary to cooperate. "We will reward anyone who finds the victim," said Colonel Muu.

Police determined that Hoi murdered his daughter on February 1 and then texted his Korean lover, who had just returned home in anger. "The Korean girl then informed the child's maternal grandmother," said Colonel Muu.

According to Hoi's ex-mother-in-law, on the same day her family reported to the police, on February 24, Hoi suddenly called to confess, stating that he was upset about his relationship with his girlfriend. He asked his family to send someone to Da Nang to help him search for his son.

According to relatives, when his first daughter was born, Hoi went to Korea to work and had a relationship with a local girl who was 5 years older. Hoi returned home and the couple had two more twin sons. When they divorced in 2018, Hoi adopted his first daughter. Since then, he has not contacted his ex-wife's family, has not said where he is, and has yelled at anyone who calls him. On his Facebook account, Hoi has not posted pictures or updated information about his daughter.

Authorities said that based on a tip from the child’s grandmother’s family, Hoi was arrested on the morning of February 25 and said he did not use drugs before committing the crime. Hoi said he was upset because his stepchild and ex-wife had caused his lover to return to Vietnam, so he strangled his daughter at a hotel in Son Tra district and disposed of the body.
